When Do I Need Emergency HVAC Repair in Northeast PA?

Posted On: March 22, 2018

HVAC systems don’t keep 9-to-5 hours, and you can almost be certain that sometimes you’re going to have problems when your HVAC repair technician isn’t on the clock. Knowing when a problem is an emergency and when it can wait will help you make the right decisions for your family and your home. Here are some situations when an HVAC problem deserves an immediate call for repair!

If you experience any of these situations, call T. E. Spall & Son for emergency repair of your heating and cooling system.

1. The Weather Requires a Working System

Sometimes the “emergency” status depends on how severe the weather is outside. If you’re experiencing a calm spring day, you can get by with opening your windows and letting in some fresh air until your HVAC technician can arrive. If, on the other hand, we are in the midst of a dangerous heat wave or cold spell, you need a working HVAC system to keep your family and home safe. If yours stops working, then you have an emergency!

2. Strange Smells

Unusual smells from your HVAC system that can’t be chalked up to dust burning off when you turn on the heat for the first time are always a time when it’s a good idea to call. A rotten egg smell can indicate a gas leak, while a hot electrical smell can indicate something is burning in the system. Both should be addressed quickly for your protection or the protection of your system.

3. Extreme Noises

Some noises from your air conditioner or furnace can wait, but if you’re hearing sounds like an explosion or intense screeching noises, you need to call. Waiting could cause more costly damage or leave your home vulnerable to a fire. In these situations, turn the system off and call us right away so we can assess the problem and provide a workable solution.

4. No Air Flow from the System

If you have no air flow at all from your HVAC system and are experiencing unusually hot or cold weather, then you will need emergency service. Our qualified HVAC technicians can get to the bottom of our lack of air flow to restore proper heating and cooling to your home.

5. Your AC or Heat Pump Is Frozen

If your air conditioner isn’t working, check the outdoor unit. If you can see visible ice, then you have an HVAC emergency. This typically means there is a coolant leak, and only an experienced HVAC technician can repair it. Similarly, if you have a heat pump that is not working and has visible ice, give us a call.

If in Doubt, Call Spall for Emergency HVAC Repair in Northeast PA!
